The Toyota Yaris is no different and was sensationally awarded 5 stars by Euro NCAP which is the maximum achievable. It was awarded on the basis of design, engineering and build quality of the Toyota Yaris. So what does this actually mean to you, the driver? Well you get the benefit of front ventilated discs plus ABS and EBD give you all round performance braking, which improves your driving experience as well as assisting you in stopping in the quickest and safest possible time under extreme conditions. Should you fail to brake in time and you are unfortunate enough to have an impact collision, then you are provided with up to nine airbags being deployed throughout your Yaris. Comfort/Economy

The performance of the Yaris is very comparable with it’s competitors. There isn’t much room for improvement when you are dealing with engines sizes of 1.0, but what Toyota do do well is getting as much out of the 1.0 litre engine as possible. With their VVT-I technology you get a top speed of 96mph for the 1.0 litre and 106mph for the 1.3 litre. Obviously you can go for the bigger engine 1.8 Dual VVT-I and get 121mph and 0-62mph in 9.3 seconds but the fuel economy is affected dramatically. Drive the 1.0 litre Yaris around town sensibly and you get an astonishing 52.3mpg. I remind you that this is a petrol engine getting you 52.3mpg! Full credit to Toyota for this achievement. I personally have had diesel cars in the past that have failed to come anywhere near that figure. Just to show how clever they are, the Japanese manufacturer rubs salt into the wounds of other brands, by producing a diesel engine, 1.4 D-4D, which gets a staggering 62.8mpg combined. With low insurance costs, low emissions resulting in a low tax bracket, you have a car which is affordable and cheap to run in all areas.

The good news with nearly all the small compact cars in the market place, is that they are affordable. It is not very often you get to say that when talking about cars, but thankfully the manufacturers have all agreed that in the most popular section of the car market, they will price their cars at affordable prices for their customers. With various offers and promotions constantly advertised on these cars, customer’s decisions are often made by these prices.
With Toyota however you may have to pay a little bit more than some of the other manufacturers, but the statement that you pay for what you get is certainly appropriate in this matter. The build quality alone is worth the extra money and the money you get in return when you part exchange or sell your car further down the line, is way ahead of its rivals. So don’t be blinkered by the flashing lights and sales signs, pay a little bit extra and get the better car!
